Lamont Clan History:

Clan Lamont is a group of Highlands, who spent centuries guiding the Cowal Peninsula of Argyll. They are said to have descended from Anrothan Ua Neill, an Irish prince of the O'Neill tribe. The family name is derived from the ancient human name "Lagman".

One of the most famous stories in family history comes from their relationship with Gregor's surname. In the early 17th century, the sons of the king of Lamont and Gregor were on a hunting trip when a dispute arose and Gregor's cousin was injured. Lamont fled the scene, and after losing his way he came across the residence of MacGregor of Glenstrae, the king of Gregor's surname.

MacGregor offered Lamont asylum, and after realising it was his son who had been killed, he turned his back on Gregor's angry relatives and chased after Lamont before helping him escape. Years later, when MacGregor fled the Campbells after being stripped of his territory, Lamont offered him protection to the Toward Castle national team. MacGregor lived with Lamont for many years, and when he died he was buried in Lamont land.

Historic Neighbours Of Lamont Is:

Clan Lamont has long been associated with the Campbell faction, their historic neighbours. The two nations formed an alliance to thwart the English voyage ordered by Henry VIII in 1544, but most of their history ended in fierce strife, largely because of its proximity and contiguous land. The movement led to the infamous "Dunoon Massacre" of 1646, when the Campbell family sought revenge for the loss of the 1645 Battle of Inverlochy. The Campbells requested hospitality at Toward Castle, which was allowed as usual, and once inside the castle the Campbells killed the Lamont in their beds. They then proceeded to kill hundreds of Lamonst tribes, including women and children. The resulting loss was devastating to the Lamont family in the 18th century and they were less likely to be involved in Jacob's rebellion and subsequent violence.

The leader of the current nation is Rev. Fr. Peter Noel Lamont of that Ilk, Commander of the Name and Weapons of Lamont.
